Vehicle Roadworthiness Test
Vehicle Roadworthiness Test
According to the Estonian law all vehicles and trailers must be inspected at regular intervals. It provides a basis for checking that vehicles are in a roadworthy condition and meet the same safety standards as when they were first registered. The frequency of testing depends on the category and age of the vehicle. The obligation to present vehicle for the roadworthiness test is every 6 to 24 months.
Owners of a new passenger car in Estonia must have it checked for roadworthiness in 4 years from the date of its initial registration and in every 2 years thereafter.
A used car in the age of 10 years or older must be tested for roadworthiness in every 12 months after the date of the last roadworthiness test.
A roadworthiness test does not have to be conducted each time a vehicle changes owner. When moving from another EU country and registering as a resident in Estonia there is no need for the roadworthiness test if the car already has a valid EU roadworthiness test.
The provider of the roadworthiness tests Estonia is the Estonian Road Administration who has outsourced the service to inspection centers. All inspection centers are private companies which meet the quality management requirements of the Estonian Accreditation Centre and have a valid contract with Estonian Road Administration. For more information on roadworthiness tests in Estonia and to check the validity of vehicle’s roadworthiness test please contact the Estonian Road Administration.
